Detection range
Chemical engineering: additive molecules in the polymer matrix, with the property of molecular miscibility known as compatibility.
Biology: the concept of a variety of biological, physical, chemical, etc. reactions resulting from the interaction between a material and an organism.
Construction: the physical and chemical properties of the bonding sealing material will not be affected by the contact between the bonding sealing material and other materials.
Partial detection method
Glass transition temperature method
Glass transition is an inherent property of amorphous polymer materials,it is the macroscopic embodiment of the transformation of the movement form of polymer,it has a direct impact on the performance of materials and technology. At present, there are mainly three ways to detect glass transition temperature:differential scanning calorimetry, static thermomechanical analysis, dynamic thermomechanical analysis.
Infrared spectroscopy
Infrared spectroscopy can also be used to study the compatibility of blend components. For a blend system with certain compatibility, the components interact with each other. The infrared spectral bands of the blends will be offset compared with those of a single component. Migration occurs mainly in the band position of some groups. The migration becomes more pronounced when hydrogen bonds are formed between the blend components.
Electron microscopy (SEM) method
The morphology of blends taken by electron microscopy can also be used to study the compatibility of blends. Generally speaking, when the blend components have good compatibility and the boundary two transition layers of a certain thickness are formed, the interface between the two phases is fuzzy. In addition, when the blending process is the same, the particle size of dispersed phase is relatively small of the blending system with good compatibility. Electron microscopy can be used in combination with other characterization methods as an auxiliary characterization of compatibility.
Turbidity point method
Blends formed by two polymers are often incompatible at arbitrary ratios and temperatures. Some polymer pairs are perfectly compatible only within a certain ratio and temperature range, beyond which phase separation occurs and a two-phase system is formed. According to the phase separation temperature, it is divided into two types: "Lower Critical Solution Temperature" (LCST) and "Upper Critical Solution Temperature" (UCST). The relation schema between the phase separation temperature of the blend and the composition of the phase separation occurs is called the phase diagram of the blend. The phase separation behavior represented by phase diagrams of blends can obviously be used to study the compatibility of blend components. When a blend changes from a homogeneous system to a two-phase system, its transmittance will change. This phase transition point is called the cloud point and can be determined by the method of measuring the cloud point. The cloud point method is a common method in the theoretical study of compatibility.
Reversed-phase chromatography
Reversed-phase chromatography (RPC) was used to study the compatibility of blend systems, the method is also to determine the phase separation behavior of the blends .RPC Using a small molecule as a "probe molecule ", the retention volume (Vg) of the system was determined. When phase separation occurs in the blend, the probe molecule retention mechanism changes, causing lgvg-1 /T to deviate from the line. At the turning point, it is Where phase changes occur of the blending system changes. For some blend components with similar refractive index, the phase separation behavior cannot be determined by cloud point method, so it can be determined by RPC.
